We stayed at Robin's Roost near I.P. Village for 3 nights we arrived about 9:00 p.m. and they were already closed. The person who took our reservation did not let the own know so our cabin was still dirty from the last user. We sat in the sub for an hour while the owner cleaned it. It was a small two bedroom cabin and it was worth it.
The first day out was a full great sunny day. The frost and snow on the trees was amazing. Mom did not want to stop we covered 130 miles that day we left about 9:15 and arrived home at 5:00 p.m. We had to stop and fuel up once at Ponds Lodge as we headed down to Mesa Falls. That night we cleaned up and headed to Ponds Lodge for dinner. The snow was about 3 ft deep and mostly powder so you had to be careful as you went off the road which we did plenty to times.
We stopped at Big Springs several times around. You had to go this way to get out and around to the places we wanted to see.
Mom on the bridge at Big Springs.
A warming hut on the Black Canyon route.
Mom laying on the ground taking pictures of snow trees.
This was the Black Canyon Loop. We were the first people on this trail since the last snow storm Sunday. It was great!
Mom texting the kids the pic.
Stopping and checking the map.
Same as above different location.
Lunch on the way to Mesa Falls. It started to get cloudy.
It was still great fun.
Upper Mesa Falls.
Below is Wednesday. We headed out in the morning and it was icy rain. We could not keep the ice off of the goggles. We went home cleaned up and headed to West Yellowstone for the morning an early afternoon. We looked through shops,we ate at Gushers, then headed home to the cabin.
We tried to go out and head for the hills, as you can see it was still bad weather. It was cloudy and ice rain still. We did not want to give up.
As you can see behind us... It was useless as we headed up the canyon the fog was so dense we went back to the cabin. We did gain another 52 miles before giving up. You could not see the trail 10 yards out.
Back down in the valley.
We looked for cards the store did not have any. They did have dice and we bought them. We made our own Yahtzee game. After 4 rounds and a tie we agreed to end it in a tie. ( note mom's hand movement it was her turn to role the dice. We then had the best dinner. Mom fried up some T bone steaks and shrimp. Top it off with a salad and cook shrooms. It was another great evening! Note to self... Need one more day next year! Thanks to our older kids that took care of the younger kids. We owe you big time. Love, Dad and Mom.
